Display Energy Certificates

Easton Bevins are a Chartered Building Surveying and Architectural Design consultancy.

We have been established for over 20 years providing services in the south and southwest. We are qualified to provide EPCs (Energy Performance Certificates) and DECs (Display Energy Certificates) under the Energy Performance of Buildings (Certificates and Inspections) (England and Wales) Regulations 2007.

DISPLAY ENERGY CERTIFICATES

Q)    What is a Display Energy Certificate?

A)    A Display Energy Certificate (DEC) and an accompanying Advisory Report (AR) is required for any building occupied (or part occupied) by a publically funded authority or an institution, providing a public service to a large number of persons and is therefore visited by those persons and with a floor area in excess of 1,000m2.

Private organisations, even those sharing occupation of a building with an organisation mentioned above, do not need to display a DEC.

Q)    When do I need a Display Energy Certificate?

A)    DECs are required from 1st October 2008 to be displayed in a prominent position, clearly visible to all visitors to the site and an AR must be in place.  The DEC will need to be renewed annually and the AR every seven years.

Q)    Who needs to provide a Display Energy Certificate?

A)    It is your responsibility as the authority or organisation to prepare and display a DEC and have an AR in place.

Q)    Who can carry out the energy assessment and produce a Display Energy Certificate?

A)    In order to prepare the necessary documentation to ensure compliance you will need to have appointed an ACCREDITED ENERGY ASSESSOR to produce a DEC and AR for each of the buildings or sites affected.

Q)    What information do I need to provide?

A)    The DEC is calculated by analysing data collected on fuel consumption and you should therefore start collecting your data now. This includes all meter readings and fuel bills and should contain details of all energy consumption of the site. The measurement of the internal floor area is also required.

WHAT DO I DO NEXT?
