Environment Policy as taken from the Staff Handbook, Section 23, Rev A - 1st June 2006;:
23. ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY
23.1 Easton Bevins actively encourages its staff take responsibility for their actions and to consider the environment in all activities, from office based applications through to specifying products for building works.
23.2 We are committed to becoming a truly sustainable business. This means having the ability to continue providing our customers with high quality products and services in ways that enhance the environment.
23.3 We:
- have a commitment to continuous improvement;
- aim to comply with all relevant environmental legislation as a minimum level of performance;
- educate and train our employees in environmental issues and the environmental effects of their activities;
- monitor the progress and review our environmental performance annually.
23.4 We seek to:
- comply with the requirements of environmental legislation and approved codes of practice;
- assess the environmental impact of all historic, current and likely future operations;
- continuously seek to improve environmental performance ;
- reduce pollution, emissions and waste;
- reduce the use of all raw materials, energy and supplies ;
- raise awareness, encourage participation and train employees in environmental matters;
- expect similar environmental standards from all suppliers and contractors;
- assist customers to use products and services in an environmentally-sensitive way;
- liaise with the local community;
- participate in discussions about environmental issues;
- conserve and protect the environment and, wherever possible, improve it through the services we provide;
- use and specify locally sourced materials where possible to reduce unnecessary transportation.
23.5 In addition to the above we specifically encourage and support the following:
- Responsible transport strategy:
1. The use of motor vehicles only when absolutely necessary.
2. Car sharing to be utilised where appropriate and practical to do so.
3. Public transport to be utilised where appropriate and practical to do so.
- Recycling of packaging materials:
- Wherever possible use recycled materials.
- Wherever possible use materials that can be recycled.
- Wherever possible recycle materials.
Minimise waste:
- Do not waste materials (in particular stationery – use scrap paper for drafts and use both sides of sheets).
- Efficient use of water and energy:
1. Responsible use of water when making refreshments and washing up/cleaning (fill a kettle with the appropriate amount of water for example).
2. All lights and equipment to be turned off when not in use.
- Responsible design and specification of materials:
1. Only specify timber from sustainable (managed) forests.
- Phase out the use and specification of CFCs and ozone-depleting substances.
- Use (for reference) specification guides such as “The Green Guide to Housing Specification”, “The Green Building Bible” and “The Green Guide to Specification.
- Obtain data from manufacturers and suppliers on environmental impact during extraction, manufacturing, processing and transport.
- Careful planning and design for materials and components, using standard modules where possible to minimise construction waste.
