“I would certainly recommend Easton Bevins as a place to train and work. There are also good opportunities for career progression.”

I sat my degree at UWE in Bristol and my placement was with Easton Bevins, which I really enjoyed. They are a midsize organisation, which appealed to me. They also offer a range of services that the larger commercial firms do not, including disciplines that I thought would be good for my APC and ongoing professional development. I gained valuable experience covering everything from residential building surveys to multi-million-pound projects and legal cases.

Opportunities to work at different UK offices

After completing my degree, I came back to Easton Bevins as a graduate building surveyor. I'm from the North Midlands, and had wanted to return to the region, so the fact that they were opening a Birmingham office worked for me. Then later, when we opened our Manchester office, I transferred up here, meaning I am now back working in my home region.

Working with industry leading experts

It’s a great place to work. The culture is respectful, and you are not micromanaged, they trust you to get on with the job that you are trained and qualified to do. There is also a wide body of experience that we can all draw on – some leading experts in their field – so there’s always someone you can contact if you've got a technical issue or question.

I really like the sense of community here and the bond that you build with your managers. If you want to specialise in a specific field, they will support you. For the last five years, I’ve been specialising in fire safety and high-rise cladding remediation. I've gained two qualifications specific to that field, both funded by Easton Bevins. I developed my interest in fire safety when shadowing Chris Easton as he supported our clients with litigation and insurance claims following the Grenfell Tower fire. Now I manage the remediation of blocks of flats to make sure that they are safe.

A good place to train and to work

I would certainly recommend Easton Bevins as a place to train and work. If you are looking for a good experience, covering a range of disciplines, and enjoy working in a close-knit, professional team, that's what you'll get at Easton Bevins. There are also good opportunities for career progression. It’s merit-driven, so the more qualifications and experience you have, the higher you can go. I'm working towards further qualifications and look forward to growing with the business.
