Internship Experience at Easton Bevins

Posted 05 Jan 2022   By Easton Bevins

Sandra Sullivan is currently on a work placement with Easton Bevins. Here she shares a bit about her experience so far...

During my second year of study at the University of the West of England, I was very keen to undertake an internship year of 'on the job' training and experience. The University had published a number of opportunities around the country that students could apply for. I applied to Easton Bevins and was thrilled to be offered a year placement starting in July 2021.

Gaining experience of surveying services

The placement year at Easton Bevins has allowed me to gain real experience of a variety of surveying services. From the first week, I was able to shadow senior surveyors and assist in a number of surveys, including full building surveys, measured surveys, fire risk assessments, reinstatement costs analysis, schedules of condition and dilapidations surveys.

Back at the office, I have been given the opportunity to help write up reports, undertake research, complete drawings, provide quotes and help clients.

Valuable insight that helps define future plans

There is still so much to learn but what has been great about a placement at Easton Bevins is that I can get involved in a variety of projects, while supporting my colleagues and becoming a more knowledgeable surveyor. Easton Bevins also provide monthly CPD and encourage ongoing learning and this is a great way to continue to learn.

For me, there are a number of benefits in taking an internship. The experience will help me achieve better grades in my final year at university and improve my career prospects. It has also allowed me to learn a variety of new skills and help me define what I would like my future career to be.

Applications for our 2022-23 placement positions are now open. If you are interested in applying, please send your CV and covering letter to recruitment@eastonbevins.co.uk using "Placement Application" as the subject.
